摘要

Artificial intelligence has exerted a profound influence on psychology, reshaping not only its analytical tools but also its broader research paradigms. Taking the study of awe as an illustrative case, we examine how these transformations are unfolding in contemporary psychological research. In recent years, awe has emerged as a prominent topic of scholarly inquiry, generating a substantial body of research. Yet, as a complex and multifaceted emotional experience, awe encompasses rich and deeply layered psychological content, and its conceptual nature has remained the subject of ongoing theoretical debate. Against this backdrop, we seek to re-examine the concept of awe through a large-model, data-driven approach. Specifically, we utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) to perform automated grounded theory coding on extensive psychological corpora, employing an embedding vector similarity merging mechanism to resolve semantic redundancy and refine core conceptual dimensions. To ensure theoretical rigor, we subject these AI-derived constructs to a validation framework. By implementing a discriminative recognition paradigm among 1,000 participants, we establish a qualitative-to-quantitative closed-loop to quantify the conceptual distinctiveness and cross-cultural robustness of awe across Chinese and Western samples. Our findings demonstrate how AI-driven thematic synthesis, when anchored by high-powered empirical evidence, can solidify psychological constructs and resolve long-standing theoretical ambiguities.
