题 目:“Robotic Asians”: Mechanistic Dehumanization of Asian Workers in the U.S.
主讲人:杨之续博士
摘要
Asians in the U.S. are often viewed as competent and high-achieving, yet still face various workplace barriers. To understand anti-Asian biases, we draw on history, ethnic studies, and dehumanization research to propose that Asian workers are subjected to “mechanistic dehumanization”—being likened to robots and machines. In this talk, I will introduce a theoretical framework for understanding the racialized experiences of Asians in the U.S., share studies on racial differences in perceived mechanistic dehumanization and its associated workplace outcomes, and present mixed-methods studies that develop a scale to measure mechanistic dehumanization experienced by Asian workers. These findings establish mechanistic dehumanization as a framework for understanding anti-Asian biases, extend dehumanization research, and offer a validated measure for future studies.
